Beaten tin and weatherboard, wooden sash windows and timeworn floors; this Post Office turned accommodation in NSW's Snowy Mountains has the air of perfectly preserved piece of heritage architecture - but it's a little more complicated than that.⁠ ⁠ Resoration-obsessed Sonja and her chef partner Warren were the saviours of what was once an all but blown-away and burned structure - once the Pender Lea post office. "Our whole ethos, from the ground up, is to save beautifully made things, rather than discard them," Sonja says of her love of salvaged objects and recycled materials. Despite being one of five apartments in a 1950s "a large, red brick box", this delightful Hobart apartment could not feel more bespoke.⁠ ⁠ "It was original – nothing had been touched. It was a complete mess inside, so it was a really exciting project to do," says owner Julie, who completed the project with her son, Jackson, and husband, Craig. "People ask us what we do, and I will often say we save marriages. Blokes get themselves into trouble and have to buy our peonies to make up for it!" jokes Richard, who owns and runs this 7-hectare peony farm (Weston Farm) alongside his wife Belinda in Brighton, Tasmania.⁠ ⁠ Making the move to the then bare canvas of a property when they were just 24, the pair have poured years of love and hard work into achieving its now thriving status.
