Moving to the country has been a true labour of love for Shelley and Tyrone Kennedy, who shifted their two daughters and loyal border collie Banjo from Perth to rural Denmark in 2019.â â Building a brand new home plus a guest house and starting a productive beef cattle business, the couple has given new life to the site, which they named Upland Farm. "We have farming friends and we fell in love with the lifestyle. Opportunities feel endless in a country town and, for us, life feels more fulfilling," Shelley says.â â Take a tour of the property via the link in bio.â â Photography: @hannahpuechmarinâ Words: @justicelynâ â #bedroomdesign #treechange #denmarkWA #perth #newbuild #farming
Life slows down and traditions take centre stage when the Blomfields gather for Christmas at Tarmaroo, their family home in the Hunter Valley region of NSW. â â Along with Cracker the wallaby, donkeys Alice, Will, Hazel and Toby, and miniature schnauzer Alfie, the extended family comes together for lazy days of eating, relaxing by the pool, and sleeping under the stars. And who could forget the tree; "It's one of the things I look forward to the most. Grabbing a beer and axe and wandering the property to find the most appropriate-looking Christmas tree," says owner and interior stylist Emma Blomfield.â â Read more via the link in our bio.â â Photography: @brigidarnottphotographyâ Styling: @johnmangilaâ â #countrychristmas #countrystylechristmas #huntervalleynsw #farmanimals #sandstonehouse
A fixture in woolsheds and on farmhouse verandahs across the country, straw brooms are synonymous with the image of rural Australia â but these ones have a special story.â â The last remaining original producer of straw brooms, Tumut Broom Factory has been handed down through generations â three, in fact. Having taken up the trade 37 years ago when his father asked for "a hand", owner Geoff Wortes is an expert in his craft. And now, history repeats as his own son, Andrew, has joined the ranks. "I love the idea of keeping something like this alive," he explains.â â Read the story via the link in bio.â â Photography: @brigidarnottphotographyâ Words: @alicemoffittâ â #tumutbrooms #tumutnsw #strawbrooms #traditionalbroom #strawbroom
For 25 years, Jim Gladders made Christmas cakes for his family, baking three every October â one for each of his daughters and another for himself â and keeping them in the refrigerator to mature until December 25.â â It's through his eldest daughter Paula, who fondly remembers her father serving it "with a chunk of cheddar cheese and a glass of brandy", that the tradition lives on as a way to remember "Pa Jim", who passed away at 84.â â One of our favourite and special heirloom recipes, you can recreate it by tapping the link in our bio.â â Photography: @markroperphotographyâ Styling: @deborahkaloperfoodstylistâ Words: @sarahjineilâ â #heirloomrecipes #christmasrecipe #christmascake #christmaspudding #traditionalrecipe #christmasdessert
Puppy wrangling, wallaroo bottle feeding, gift wrapping. Itâs always a joy to create the Country Style Christmas cover, and this year we were lucky enough to be welcomed to 1680-hectare cattle property, Belford Park in Scone, NSW, to do so. Enjoy this glimpse behind the scenes, and be sure to get your hands on a copy of our Christmas issue, on sale now, to read the full story - and other festive tales! #countrystylemagazine #christmasshoot #australianchristmas #cattle #wallaroo
Classic, pared-back and traditional, or full of character, colour and joy; we love a good hallway, and this old converted bank in the regional town of Hay has some of the most beautiful.â â Paying homage to the home's original details was of high priority for owner Sheila, to whom the building is something of a family heirloom; a fact which she wished to both honour and depart from. "It was important to us to make the house feel like ours and not the house I grew up in," Sheila, 37, explains. "Now, it's a jolly coexistence of new furnishings, antiques and us."â â Wander the halls via the link in bio.â â Photography: @marniehawson â Words: Skye Mansonâ Design: @m_i_s_s_m_i_t_hâ â #homeconversion #historicbuilding #hallwaydecor #haynsw #hallway #entryway
Christmas at their Peregian Beach home is a much-anticipated event for the Rasura family, involving many traditions and tropes. "It's always so lovely and so loud with lots of children running about," owner Katie, 38, says.â â Tucked behind a dune and surrounded by pandanus, banksia and paperbark trees, and only a short stroll to the beach, their home is the perfect setting for an intrinsically Australian Christmas - lazy, long lunch and all.â â Step inside via the link in bio.â â Photography: @hannahpuechmarinâ Styling: Cheryl Carrâ Words: @clairemactaggartâ â #peregianbeach #beachhouse #hamptonsstyle #outdoorshower #coastalstyle
Another Country Style favourite, Hightor has been held tightly by Theresa and her husband Tony for the last four odd years â until now.â â Recently listed for sale with McQueen real estate agency, this six-bedroom grand Edwardian residence, with all its sprawling views over Daylesford, could be your very own. Lovingly restored by the couple, the home is brimming with charm, character and history. "Hightor is different things to different people," says Theresa. "That's why we love it."â â Step inside â and see the listing â via the link in bio.â â Photography: @marniehawsonâ â #countryhome #daylesfordvic #homerestoration #edwardianhome #historichome
Spring is the season for cushy, lush and blushing peonies â and at Spring Hill flower farm, it must be a delightful sight.â â For most of the year, architect Nicky and global equities trader Mac focus their time and enery on their respective careers. But come the 10th or 12th of November, it's all hands on deck as the first buds appear. Once the buds unfurl, the property in central Victoria is opened over two weekends for visitors to pick their own. "We have too many flowers and it was a way of not wasting them," Nicky says.â â Take a wander through via the link in bio.â â Photography: @sharyncairnsâ Words: @ginimhoffâ â #peonies #flowerfarm #centralvictoria #peony #countrylife
For Heather Hickson, a lack of available holiday homes was more than reason enough to invest in her very own, in the scenic village of Witta 10 minutes' drive north of Maleny.â â While she fell in love with this charming fixer-upper, her husband Garry wasn't so easily convinced. "Thanks to various add-ons over the years, the house was like a rabbit warren; a mix of small spaces and dark hallways," Heather concedes. But the lure of giving the home a well-deserved restoration eventually won out, and now it is a light, bright space that still incorporates many original features.â â Step inside via the link in bio.â â Photography: @anastasiakphotographerâ Styling: Lara Crossâ Words: @stephaniehopewritesâ â #naturalpool #waterfeature #stackstonefireplace #stonefireplace #countrycottage #wittaQLD
Taking inspiration from a famous past owner, Everest Seymour, the interiors of Seymour House in the NSW Southern Highlands are full of vintage pieces. âI imagine him as a clever, well-dressed arts lover who would live it up seeing shows in The States, then return home and listen to records he bought on his travels,â says stylist and owner Georgia Ashdown. It's never too early to start getting into the festive spirit, and Christmas at Melissa Penfold's French-style farmhouse is the perfect place to garner some inspiration.â â Nestled into the Southern Highlands, Melissa's childhood haunts, every room offers views of endless hedges, lawn and sky. "I have friends here constantly â and everyone who comes doesn't want to leave! This house loves a party, it loves people. And at the end of the day, that's what it's all about," says Melissa.â â Take a tour via the link in bio.â â Photography: @abbie_melleâ Styling: @belljarinteriorsâ Words: @hannahjameswordsâ â #frenchstylehome #countrychristmas #christmasdecorating #countryfarmhouse #southernhighlandsnsw
