Our city’s story belongs on a national stage, and BCIC's VP of Entrepreneurship & Innovation is making it happen. In February, Nathan Burkhart earned a spot on the 2025 Economic Development 40 Under 40 list. Now he’s back at it with another significant recognition: named one of North America’s Top 50 Economic Developers of 2025 by Consultant Connect. This honor highlights leaders making real community impact. Nathan’s work at BCIC continues to drive new opportunities, partnerships, and momentum for Brownsville. Join us in congratulating him in the comments! BCIC is excited to share our 2025-2029 Strategic Plan with the community we serve. This roadmap represents months of listening to your voices: entrepreneurs sharing their dreams over coffee, families describing their ideal parks, students envisioning their future careers, and civic leaders painting their vision for Brownsville's tomorrow. Your input shaped five ambitious goals: creating more green spaces and family-friendly amenities, strengthening support for small businesses through the eBridge Center, breathing new life into our historic downtown, building partnerships that connect residents to opportunities, and ensuring BCIC remains robust and responsive to your needs. Over the past two decades, BCIC has renewed and expanded parks and public amenities, invested in community health and wellness projects, helped restore historic buildings, launch the eBridge Center as a regional entrepreneurship hub, and support countless local businesses. Now, we're building on that foundation with priorities you told us matter most: better parks for families, stronger support for entrepreneurs, a vibrant downtown, and opportunities that keep our young talent here at home. As Board Chair Dr. Rose M. Z. Gowen notes, economic development and community wellness aren't opposing forces, but rather partners that strengthen each other. President & CEO Cori Peña sees this partnership in action every day: "the entrepreneur with a dream, the family enjoying their neighborhood park, the artist painting the mural downtown." That's the Brownsville we're building together. Read the press release: https://brownsvillecic.com/bcic-adopts-visionary-2025-2029-strategic-plan-to-drive-brownsvilles-future/ (Link in bio)

Good Neighbor provides meals, shelter, food pantry access, and support services to those facing hardship in Brownsville. They’ve been a steady resource for neighbors in need, and we’re proud to stand alongside them. On Thursday, our team at BCIC spent the afternoon volunteering at Good Neighbor Settlement House (@goodneighborsettlementhouseinc), helping serve lunch and connecting with the staff and volunteers who make a real difference every day. We’re grateful to have had the chance to support the work they do for our community. That same day also marked the final collection for our month-long pantry drive at eBridge Center and the response was incredible. We saw a tremendous outpouring of support from residents and local businesses: proof that Brownsville shows up when it matters. To everyone who donated, volunteered, or spread the word, thank you. You helped make a difference. ? If you’d like to keep the momentum going, consider supporting Good Neighbor directly. Every bit helps. ? https://www.goodneighborsettlement.org/donate (Link In Bio!)
