In the early 90s when rose growers Sus and Derek Bush purchased Old Bogalara, there was little more to it than empty, sprawling fields and a scant tin shack โย but they had their hearts set.โ โ Uprooting their family, business and some 5000 rose plants, the pair made the move from Bowning to Bookham. Franzese, now 44, related in an interview with Page Six that "he was 'brainwashed' into cutting ties with his mother and undergoing conversion therapy to 'convert' him to heterosexuality when he was 21 years old in 1999, five years before starring as out and proud Damian in 'Mean Girls,'" IndieWire relayed. Franzese "explained that he forced himself to undergo the pseudoscientific practice of conversion therapy because he 'didn't want to be gay' and 'didn't know what to do' as part of his Catholic and Pentecostal Christian faith," IndieWire said. UK newspaper The Independent explained that "Franzese said that while he was raised in a family that 'lovingly tolerated' homosexuality, it was the 'world around' him that made him 'feel like being gay was not OK.'" The actor turned to a conversion therapy practitioner who claimed to be an "ex-gay" himself, and had been recommended by Frazese's grandmother's pastor, the article added. The article noted that as part of the quack practice, Franzese was ordered to cut himself off from the supportive people in his life, including his own mother. It was a deeply meaningful moment for Franzese, who reflected on the difference such representation in the media would have made to himself as a gay youth. He is the first player from a Brazilian top-flight team to say he's bisexual. "All my life I was asked whether I was gay or not. I dated men, I date women. So what? "So many people say it is important that I stand up, so I decided to say it today. I am bisexual." Actor @elliotpage revealed that most of his family and friends "weren't surprised" about his transition. During a recent appearance on "Late Night with Seth Meyers," Page was beaming in triumph for being able to be himself as he explained that his life has "improved drastically" after his transition. "I feel really grateful for that," the 35-year-old "Umbrella Academy" star told host Seth Meyers. Transitioning had been something that he'd been "talking about with a lot of people in my life," he shared. Page recently wrote a wide-ranging essay for Esquire in which he shared his early struggles being famous and in the closet in Hollywood. But what he wants to focus on now, he told Meyers, is happiness. "The degree of joy that I feel, the degree of presence that I feel," he said. "I feel a way that I really never thought possible for a long, long time. So that's really what I'm focusing on and embracing the most. But of course, moments can be overwhelming." Negative reactions to his transition have been the most overwhelming of all but he has learned to brush it all off. In his view, everyone is a victim of the binary. "It's like, we're all on the same team here, you know? While on that panel, the 95-year-old "came out as a lesbian for 'basically the first time,'" Pink News relayed. Blair called women's teams "a great opportunity for these young girl ball players to... realize that they're not alone, and you don't have to hide." Added the near-centenarian: "I hid for 75, 85 years, and this is actually basically the first time I've ever come out." Blair spoke a little about the bad old days. "We sort of had a little thing, you know how you do," Blair revealed. "I was with a girl. It was really bad because in our day you wouldn't dare tell your family or hint anybody" about being LGBTQ+. @chrisevans, who voices Buzz Lightyear in the new Pixar movie, dismissed โ and dissed โ censorship due to the film's inclusion of a lesbian character, UK newspaper The Guardian reported. "'Lightyear' was banned in the United Arab Emirates because it depicts homosexuality," The Guardian noted, referencing a same-sex kiss between one of Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger colleagues and her wife. As previously reported, the UAE announced through its Media Regulatory Office that "Lightyear" would not be allowed to screen there "due to its violation of the country's media content standards." The Guardian article added that "Disney has been unable to secure permission to show it in 13 other Middle Eastern and Asian countries, including Saudi Arabia." Evans stated his views about such censorship plainly, saying, "The real truth is those people are idiots." The "Captain America" actor went on to say, "Every time there's been social advancement as we wake up, the American story, the human story is one of constant social awakening and growth and that's what makes us good." A popular gay chef on TikTok says he was "shocked" at the similarities between the menu items he's been posting for a year and Postmates' newly released food recommendations for bottoms, according to Mashable. @_hall_that, who runs TikTok's "The Bottoms Digest" with his husband Mike Floeck, told Mashable that after Postmates started their "Eat with Pride" campaign โ which details food choices for bottoms โ "people were quick to notice the similarities" between his content and that of Postmates. Naturally, he checked out Postmates' content. "I opened the video and was completely shocked," Hall told the outlet. "They say that they were the first to create a bottom-friendly menu, when we were actually the first โ over a year ago โ to do so." "He and Floeck have been posting recipes on The Bottoms Digest since last June, and are among a group of popular creators of Bottoming TikTok," Mashable said. "Hall stated that in addition to using the same phrase 'bottom-friendly,' Postmates used similar colors, cadence, and copy as his introduction video to Bottoms Digest," the report added. Hall alleged it was a case of "a corporation... hijacking content and ideas and original work from a queer person... especially during Pride to profit off of it just for 30 days." A leading #transgender health association has lowered its recommended minimum age for starting gender transition treatment, including sex hormones and surgeries. The World Professional Association for Transgender Health said hormones could be started at age 14, two years earlier than the group's previous advice, and some surgeries done at age 15 or 17, a year or so earlier than previous guidance. The group acknowledged potential risks but said it is unethical and harmful to withhold early treatment. The update is based on expert opinion and a review of scientific evidence on the benefits and harms of transgender medical treatment in teens whose gender identity doesn't match the sex they were assigned at birth, the group said. The "Queer as Folk" reboot hit @PeacockTV last week, just in time for a #Pride month binge-watch. Set over 10-episodes, the reboot of the popular 2000 โ 2005 Showtime series, itself adapted from a 1999 British version, resets the story to present-day New Orleans. With a cast of queer, non-binary and trans actors, the show is far more authentic than its popular predecessors. Chief amongst them are @johnnysibilly, who had a breakout role on @HBO Max's hit "Hacks" last season. In the reboot, he plays Noah, a successful lawyer with everything appearing to be in check, save his love life.
