Volunteers came from far and near to help a gay Australian man paint his house in the colors of the rainbow - inside and out - after local homophobes made death threats against him, UK newspaper Daily Mail reports. Hair artist Mykey O'Halloran had moved from Melbourne to a home on Phillip Island during COVID-19. He was making plans to paint his home in rainbow hues when a group of locals, having heard about the idea, decided to weigh in. "On March 16, the group allegedly showed up at his door step, and started verbally assaulting Mr O'Halloran with death threats and homophobic slurs," Daily Mail reports. Others from the neighborhood intervened, and one man (an unidentified 23-year-old), was charged with "unlawful assault" and "making threats," Daily Mail reported. When O'Halloran related the harrowing experience on social media, volunteers came out of the woodwork to help with the work of painting the house. This included professional painters, and an actual paint company, Dulux, which donated paint for the project. "It was amazing," O'Halloran told the media. "Some people just came up to show their support and give me a hug. We had a whole team of kids involved, there was a BBQ." In total, hundreds showed their support, news reports said. O'Halloran, speaking with local news source The Project, estimated that over 60 people had participated in the actual painting. "It was a whole day of community coming together as one." A wedding venue told a couple in Ohio that they could not have their marriage hosted there because they are both women, the New York Daily News reports. The couple, Reagan Bowen and Deandra Fairand, of Piqua, Ohio, became engaged last September, the article said. They were interested in having their wedding at The Light on the Hill, a venue that promises prospective customers, "We will walk the extra mile. With a charismatic attitude as we serve Christ and you." But when the brides reached out to the venue, they were turned away. The message they received in response told them exactly why. "I am sorry, Reagan, because of our Christian beliefs, we do not believe in same-sex marriages at the venue," the message said. "I wanted to respond back to you and be upfront with you." Bowen called the rejection "disheartening and humiliating," but it didn't alter her confidence in her own faith. "I know that God loves me, and I know that God created everybody," she told local news station WHIO, adding that she had no plans to take legal action. After making the decision to leave the city and go bush, Nicholas Scott set to work creating a hardy garden that would be able to withstand the harsh, central Victorian climate. ⁠ ⁠ Despite the garden's eventual success, a period of trial-and-error initially ensued, "[I] just hadn't realised just how freezing cold the winters are out here; I was trying to fight nature," he says.⁠ ⁠ It wasn't until a light-bulb moment that Nicholas' plan for the garden finally fell into place. With a crisp white graphic look and roomy pockets, the uniforms to be worn by Team USA at the closing ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics were unveiled Wednesday by official outfitter Ralph Lauren. The uniforms, along with Ralph Lauren-designed Olympic Village attire for the American athletes, had been ready to go when the Games were postponed last summer due to the pandemic. "It seems like we're all go now," David Lauren, the company's chief branding and innovation officer, told The Associated Press ahead of the reveal. "They had been designed, produced and ready to roll." The Games are now scheduled to open July 23 and end Aug. 8 as organizers continue to figure out how to hold them with the pandemic still raging and just 100 days to go. In the meantime, Ralph Lauren is ready with opening and closing parade gear for the more than 600 Team USA athletes, those participating in the Paralympics and Olympic-themed items for sale to the public. Tony Award-winner Karen Olivo says she won't return to "Moulin Rouge! The Musical" once it reopens, saying she's frustrated by the Broadway industry and especially the silence in the wake of revelations about the behavior of producer Scott Rudin. "Moulin Rouge! The Musical" is not produced by Rudin but Olivo in an Instagram video posted Wednesday said she was not coming back to the hit show to make a stand about social justice. "Social justice is actually more important than being the sparkling diamond," Olivo said. "Building a better industry for my students is more important than me putting money in my pockets." The move comes a week after The Hollywood Reporter's cover story on Rudin contained accounts of the Broadway and Hollywood heavyweight throwing glass bowls, staples and baked potatoes at former employees. "What I'm seeing in this space right now, with our industry, is that everybody is scared, and nobody is really doing a lot of the stuff that needs to be done. People aren't speaking out." Olivo said the silence was "unacceptable" and criticized the business model of Broadway, which she said put profit over people. "Let's put our money with people who value human life and respect human life. "The Nanny" has found a streaming home. Fran Drescher's hit series, which aired on CBS for six seasons throughout the 1990s, was nearly impossible to be streamed online until HBO Max put the series up two weeks ago. Drescher co-created (with her ex-husband Peter Marc Jacobson) and starred in the series — which follows Fran Fine, a Jewish fashionista from Flushing, Queens, New York, who becomes the nanny of three children from the New York-British high society. When they came up with the idea, they pitched it to CBS as a spin on 'The Sound of Music,' except, in Drescher's words: "Instead of Julie Andrews, I come to the door." Drescher's character in "The Nanny" made her a star, thanks in part to the authenticity she brought to the role. Like her Fran Fine, Drescher was born and raised in Long Island (Queens, to be exact). She also conceived the character as a tribute to her mother, who did work, like Fran Fine, in a bridal shop. Former star of ABC's "The Bachelor" Colton Underwood came out as gay in an exclusive interview with Robin Roberts on "Good Morning America." "I've ran from myself for a long time. I've hated myself for a long time... and I'm gay. And I came to terms with that earlier this year and have been processing it. And the next step in all of this was sort of letting people know. I'm still nervous, but yeah... It's been a journey for sure." Underwood said it was the events of 2020 that made "people look at themselves in the mirror and figure out who they are and what they've been running from or what they've been putting off in their lives." Battling nerves, Underwood expressed that he was "emotional in, like such a good, happy, positive way," and "the happiest and healthiest" he has ever been. "On National Coming Out Day in October 2015, I posted on Facebook a brief paragraph about coming out," wrote surfer and lifeguard Nick Vallejo in a 2017 Outsports column. "I received support from loving families and my own. I broke down crying in my room with relief. I thought that after coming out on Facebook everything would be better, but for me it got worse." It became the darkest time of his life. But with the support of family and friends, "Vallejo started to view life in a different way," Outsports wrote in a story this week. "While previous series of 'Love Island' have included bisexual stars, the show is yet to include gay couples," writes the British tabloid The Daily Star. "ITV is accepting applications for Love Island 2021 from both gay and straight singletons, despite show execs admitting it would be hard to make a mixed sexuality version of the show work," reports the Daily Star. "Producers say they are open to any applicant who is looking for love so long as they are over 18." To do so, they have formed a partnership with the dating app Tinder to face-track the application process with ads promoting the recruitment process appearing on both the app's gay and straight-identified users profiles. Before he became an international star as Prince Charles in "The Crown," Josh O'Connor starred as the gay sheep farmer who becomes involved with a male Romanian migrant worker (Alec Secareanu). O'Connor went on to numerous acting nominations for the role, winning a British Independent Film Awards for Best Actor. The film was directed by Francis Lee, whose latest film is the lesbian period drama "Ammonite" that stars Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan (available for streaming on Hulu). "In a profile for Esquire, "the director revealed that Josh O'Connor, who led his remarkable debut film 'God's Own Country' will lead this project," wrote Film Stage. "While he wouldn't disclose the novel he's adapting for his third feature, it was noted it will touch on 'class and queerness,' following 'a sad young man alone in an epic wilderness.' 2021 has been a big year for out singer/actor Olly Alexander. The Years and Years lead singer showed his acting chops in a big way as one of the leads in "It's a Sin," Russell T. Davies' moving series that looked at the AIDS epidemic in Britain in the 1980s. In a critic's pick review in the New York Times, television critic James Poniewozik wrote: "Among a roundly excellent cast, Alexander is especially good at showing the boyish light that Ritchie keeps alive in himself even as he grows increasingly afraid it will be snuffed out early." The show was a big hit on both sides of the Atlantic, even leading to an increase in HIV testing in England. After coming out earlier this year, YouTube star JoJo Siwa is reflecting on her decision in a new interview with People Magazine. She explained she's "figuring out" how she identifies. "I still don't know what I am," she said. "I want to figure it out. I have this joke. Her [JoJo's girlfriend] name is Kylie. So, I say that I'm Ky-sexual. "I don't know... bisexual, pansexual, queer, lesbian, gay, straight," she added. "I always say gay because it kind of covers it — or queer, because I think the key word is cool." Siwa continued: "I like queer. Technically I would say that I am pansexual, because that's how I have always been my whole life is just like, my human is my human." Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson on Monday vetoed legislation that would have made his state the first to ban gender confirming treatments or surgery for transgender youth, though lawmakers could enact the restriction over his objections. The Republican governor rejected legislation that would have prohibited doctors from providing gender confirming hormone treatment, puberty blockers or surgery to anyone under 18 years old, or from referring them to other providers for the treatment. "If (the bill) becomes law, then we are creating new standards of legislative interference with physicians and parents as they deal with some of the most complex and sensitive matters involving young people," Hutchinson said at a news conference. The Republican Legislature could still enact the measure, since it only takes a simple majority of the House and Senate to override a governor's veto in Arkansas. Hutchinson said he believed an override was likely. Hutchinson's veto follows pleas from pediatricians, social workers and the parents of transgender youth who said the measure would harm a community already at risk for depression and suicide. Hutchinson said he met with doctors and transgender people as he considered whether to sign the measure. He said he would have signed if it had just focused on gender confirming surgery, which currently isn't performed on minors in the state. He noted it wouldn't have exempted youth who are already undergoing treatment. "The bill is over broad, extreme and does not grandfather those young people who are currently under hormone treatment," he said "In other words, the young people who are currently under a doctor's care will be without treatment when this law goes into effect." Sponsors of the measure did not say when they planned to seek an override or whether they had enough votes secured to enact the measure despite Hutchinson's objection. Kate Winslet revealed in an interview with The Sunday Times this week that she knows "at least" four actors who won't publicly come out because they're worried doing so will negatively impact their careers. The Oscar-winning actor said the actors in question are "well-known" and "fear" Hollywood's response if they came out, believing it would cost them roles, The Independent points out. "I cannot tell you the number of young actors I know — some well known, some starting out — who are terrified their sexuality will be revealed and that it will stand in the way of their being cast in straight roles," Winslet, 45, said. She went on to say one of the "well-known" actors was recently told by an American agent to keep their bisexuality a secret. "The agent said: 'I understand you are bisexual — I wouldn't publicize that.' " Winslet said. "I can think of at least four actors absolutely hiding their sexuality. It's painful. Thanks to the French website TÊTU for locating an Instagram account that brings new life to erotic gay images from the past, specifically archival pics from the 1970s and 1980s. The account is under the name of @truckstop_guy who, TÊTU writes: "With a fairly regular frequency, the owner of this page compiles screenshots from old pornographic VHS as well as photos from retro homoerotic magazines. The general watchword is above all to honor a facet of Western gay history by carrying out colossal archiving work." TÊTU tracked down BJ, who created the page, to talk about his posts and his process. "They belong to a riskier time when identifying clearly and proudly as gay, in a sexual way moreover, was revolutionary, underlines the sixty-year-old. Not that things are perfect today, but these men took a risk and helped young people like me to accept their sexuality but also to be totally satisfied with it." But BJ does more than just post the pics. He researches each one "to be as complete as possible on the models presented, on the studios, on the context ...," TÊTU adds. "At a time when the exchange of nudes has become commonplace, BJ wants to cherish these visuals which represented a true counter-current for the 80s." Jada Pinkett Smith and Willow Smith opened up about their attraction to women, People Magazine reports. "On Wednesday's episode of the Facebook Watch show 'Red Table Talk,' the mother-daughter duo discussed being attracted to women in a discussion with actress Niecy Nash." In the mother-daughter talk, Pinkett-Smith recalled how she had told her mother, Adrienne Banfield-Norris, that a relationship with another woman wasn't for her. "I love being amongst women, but I never could connect to women romantically. But that's not to say that it couldn't be that. You just never know." Jada Pinkett Smith and Willow Smith opened up about their attraction to women, People Magazine reports. "On Wednesday's episode of the Facebook Watch show 'Red Table Talk,' the mother-daughter duo discussed being attracted to women in a discussion with actress Niecy Nash." In the mother-daughter talk, Pinkett-Smith recalled how she had told her mother, Adrienne Banfield-Norris, that a relationship with another woman wasn't for her. "I love being amongst women, but I never could connect to women romantically. But that's not to say that it couldn't be that. You just never know." She continued: "I've had my fair share of, like, swooning and feeling like, oh my God, she's so beautiful. She's so talented, this and that," the Girls Trip actress continued. "I've swooned a lot, I will say that. I've had two times [when] I've been infatuated with a woman." She also said that she could "see [Willow] falling in love with a woman one day." Willow responded: "Yeah, I mean, I'm 20. I don't feel like I've been in love with a woman just yet. But I definitely feel like it could happen because I've had very strong feelings for women before." In June 2019, Willow revealed she loves "men and women equally" during a discussion on polyamorous romances, People wrote. Adding, "I would definitely want one man and one woman," she continued. "I feel like I could be polyfidelitous with those two people. I'm not the kind of person that is constantly looking for new sexual experiences. I focus a lot on the emotional connection, and I feel like if I were to find two people of different genders that I really connected with and we had a romantic and sexual connection, I don't feel like I would feel the need to try to go find more."
