Dave Chappelle is getting pushback for making transphobic and homophobic comments in his Netflix special "The Closer." In the special, which began airing on Tuesday, he says "Gender is a fact," before going on to slam the transgender community. "Trans women" genitalia are "not quite what it is," he says, before throwing his support with controversial "Harry Potter" creator J.K. Rowling. Last year, Rowling was roundly criticized for tweets considered transphobic, which she defended in a lengthy post on her website. Deadline reports that Chappelle also said he's part of 'Team TERF!' (the acronym for trans-exclusionary radical feminist). GLAAD tweeted their issues with Chappelle's comments: "Dave Chappelle's brand has become synonymous with ridiculing trans people and other marginalized communities. Negative reviews and viewers loudly condemning his latest special is a message to the industry that audiences don't support platforming anti-LGBTQ diatribes. We agree." Chappelle's comments have also led to Netflix losing Jaclyn Moore, an executive producer of the series, "Dear White People." Moore tweeted she will no longer be working with the streaming service. Though happy with her relationship with Netflix, she wrote: "I will not work with them as long as they continue to put out and profit from blatantly and dangerously transphobic content." She doubled down in a second tweet. "I love so many of the people I've worked with at Netflix. Brilliant people and executives who have been collaborative and fought for important art... Created, written, and directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk, the dystopian survival thriller debuted on the streaming service back on Sept. 17 but it's only recently that the show has caught the attention of the world, trending on Netflix in all countries and becoming one of the streamer's most-watched shows ever. The nine-episode Season 1 of "Squid Game" follows a number of characters in South Korea who are in debt or in desperate need of money. Hundreds of contestants are recruited to compete in children's games for a huge cash prize, but the competitions are deadly and there's only one winner. Wi Ha-joon, a 30-year-old actor and model, recently spoke to Vulture about his character in "Squid Game," the future of the show, acting, and his eye-popping Men's Health cover. A gay Trump staffer was summarily fired — and given an armed escort on his way out of the White House — when his "lively Grindr account" was discovered, former Melania Trump press secretary Stephanie Grisham recounts in a new memoir, Business Insider reported. The book, titled "I'll Take Your Questions Now: What I Saw in the Trump White House," includes a passage that talks about the firing of the staffer, who worked in Melania's office along with Grisham. The two were close friends, Insider noted. Grisham said that early in 2018, she was informed that the unnamed gay staff member was being let go even though he had been working with the then-president "for more than three years" because there was an "issue with his security clearance," the article said. The gay staffer was then "walked out of the White House by a woman from Human Resources, followed by an armed Secret Service agent, and not given a second thought," Grisham writes in her memoir. "Whoever determined security clearances had come across his Grindr account and decided that some of the stuff on it would be 'personally embarrassing' to Mrs. Trump," Grisham explains in the memoir. Daniel Craig has jumped back into the James Bond franchise for one last gig, but the character has evolved over the last 15 years — and so has his wardrobe. Esquire notes that Craig's 007 has changed up his sartorial style in ways that make sense for "a man north of fifty," eschewing body-hugging ensembles for "soft, earthy textures" that give off "dad dressing" and "history teacher" vibes. "Craig's Bond has long favored too-tight business tailoring — we know you're muscly, Daniel! - so it's a relief," the article says, to see him take to clothes that are "cut to be at once roomy and flattering," especially when some of the clothes he's rocking in the new flick are by designer Massimo Alba. At one point, as "Bond pilots a launch into harbor," he's looking "very varsity; very JFK," Esquire adds. A gay couple in Tennessee who were bounced by a wedding venue because they are both men have been flooded with offers of wedding services at a discount since their story hit the news, TMZ reported. Michael Gill and his fiancé, Coty Heaton, thought they'd found the perfect wedding venue — Barn in the Bend, a Nashville business that advertised they "offer same sex marriage ceremonies only" — were subsequently turned away when that promise turned out to be a typographical error that should have said, "We do not offer same sex marriage ceremonies." It was a nasty shock, but solace soon followed. Gill told TMZ that "several venues reached out looking to help after reading their story, with offers coming in from places elsewhere in Tennessee, plus West Virginia and Louisiana," the pop culture news site reported. Their collaboration — "Beau Menteur" — is both a book and photo exhibit that runs in Paris through October 10. Aetna is being sued by a lesbian couple who allege discrimination because the company requires higher out-of-pocket expenditures before covering fertility treatment for non-heterosexuals. The draft of a new family code for Cuba released this week proposes allowing same-sex couples to marry and adopt as well as giving children greater participation in decisions that affect them. The preliminary draft, which must be approved by Cuba's parliament then go to a grassroots plebiscite, comes almost three years after the island's communist government backed away from enshrining gay marriage protections in its new constitution in the face of opposition. Evangelical groups objected to the constitutional proposal to eliminate the description of marriage as a union of a man and woman, and change it to the union of "two people ... with absolutely equal rights and obligations." "We consider this version to be consistent with the constitutional text, and develop and update the various legal-family institutions in correspondence with the humanistic nature of our social process," Justice Minister Óscar Silveira Martínez said in announcing the draft. European reality star Tom Brusse was caught in a lie on a Spanish television show this past weekend and it led him to come out... at first, reluctantly. "After a whole summer of rumors, in the latest 'Deluxe' Tom Brusse came out as bisexual," reports the Spanish website El Periodico. On the show Brusse was taking a polygraph test and was asked if he had sex with men. He answered no, which was a lie, it turned out. "On the set, euphoria erupted and the Frenchman had no choice but to affirm that he has done it: 'I like to try everything, I try everything, as in food ... And that's it .' "But it wasn't enough. Pressed on his experiences, Brusse answered: "It was a few months ago, in an orgy," he acknowledged. "The matter did not stop there and he had to talk about his feelings during sexual intercourse," El Periodico continued. "Brusse claimed to have felt something similar to that when he had sex with a woman: 'I did it to him, he did it to me and I felt something very similar to penetration of women.'" He also addressed his randy nature. "I have been in orgies, in Marbella and in Madrid, I have also done threesomes, I have cheated on all my partners, it is something I regret the next day but I go back to do it over and over again." They say it takes a village to raise a child, and in this case it was all too heartwarmingly true. After Brody Neville, of Calgary, Canada, came out as gay at the age of 11 this past spring, he quickly lost almost all of his friends. The boy was facing a lonely birthday when his town rallied to his side for a Pride week bash in a local park, the CBC reports. Brody's mother, Leah O'Donnell, put things in motion with a Facebook post in which she recounted the way in which the brave youngster had suffered the loss of his friends as soon as he came out. "While talking to him about his birthday and what he would like to do, he is feeling dejected because he only has two friends, both of which are girls," O'Donnell posted. "One of the girl's fathers is against anything LGBTQ therefore does not allow her to hang out very often, the other girl we cannot get ahold of." The tearful youth told his mother that "nobody likes me anymore now that they know I'm gay," and fretted that his birthday was going to be a miserable occasion. O'Donnell was determined not to let that happen, so she announced plans for a barbecue at a local park, issuing a general invitation to anyone from the community that might like to show up and bring some cheer to Brody's 12th birthday. California could soon force large department stores to display some child products in gender neutral ways after the state Legislature passed a bill on Wednesday aimed at getting rid of traditional pink and blue marketing schemes for items like toys and toothbrushes. The bill would not outlaw traditional boys and girls sections in department stores, but it would require retailers to have a gender neutral section to display "a reasonable selection" of items "regardless of whether they have been traditionally marketed for either girls or for boys." The bill would only apply to department stores with 500 or more employees, so most small businesses would be exempt. It also wouldn't apply to clothes, just toys and "childcare items," which include hygiene and teething products. The state Senate passed the bill Wednesday, sending it back to the Assembly for a procedural vote before it heads to Gov. Gavin Newsom's desk. If it becomes law, California would become the first state to require these sections in stores, according to the office of Assemblyman Evan Low, the bill's author. Pooh Johnson, 25, a trans woman of color, was shot and killed on Aug. 23 in Shreveport, Louisiana, the Human Rights Campaign, which reports deadly anti-trans violence, reports. "Johnson was an accomplished makeup artist under the name Titanizer," the HRC recounted. "Sadly, not much beyond this is publicly known about Johnson's life at this time." According to local law enforcement, Johnson "was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds inside a vehicle shortly after 5:30 a.m." on Aug. 23, according to Gay City News. "Authorities pledged to determine whether Johnson's identity played a role in the fatal shooting, but police also appeared to misgender the victim," GCN added. Deadline is reporting that actors Johnny Sibilly (Pictured - "Hacks," "Pose"), Candace Grace ("Acts of Crime") and Fin Argus ("Grey's Anatomy") have joined the upcoming show in series regular roles. The outlet writes: "Grace will portray a non-binary professor navigating the rocky transition from punk to parenthood. Sibilly stars as a successful lawyer who is not as put together as he seems. Argus will play a cocky high schooler whose confidence belies his lack of real-world experience." Sibilly reacted to the casting news on Twitter. "Dreams come true. Still in awe that this is happening. So excited to tell these stories with these amazing people for this ICONIC show." "American Idol" finalist David Archuleta came out as gay earlier this year, and now he is opening up more about his decision to finally live in his truth. As reported by NBC, Archuleta, a practicing Mormon, says it was God who compelled him to finally come out, and he couldn't believe the overwhelming positive response he received from the people in his religious community. "I was shocked, because I thought, 'OK, this is probably going to be a bigger deal, maybe I'll get 30,000 or 40,000 likes, if that,' because I know this is a controversial topic and a lot of people have assumed things about me and tried to label me in the past," Archuleta told NBC's Today.com. "But it exploded. I didn't realize all the media outlets were going to talk about it, but the way that they did, it was so respectful." A gay Tennessee couple thought they had found their wedding venue, especially since the owner put in an email, "We offer same-sex marriage ceremonies only." According to Pink News, Mike Gill and Coty Heaton found "Barn in the Bend, a rustic wedding venue in Madison, Tennessee, and thought it was a perfect fit." They thought the statement that the venue only offered same-sex marriage ceremonies a bit odd, but Gill contacted the venue's owner Jackie Daniel who appeared responsive to their inquiry and offered to set up a tour. An hour later he received a second email from Daniel, whose signature had now been changed to read: "We do not offer same-sex marriage ceremonies." In a series of emails, she said that she had some memory of speaking with Gill on the phone, but couldn't remember if he had mentioned his partner was a man. She added that she "didn't want to waste his time," going on to say, "We do not offer same-sex marriages here." Gill, TMZ writes, "told Jackie he'd let everyone in the area know that BITB was bigoted, but Jackie let him know her decision was based on her religious beliefs, saying, 'I wish you the best in life and the best future in all that you do.'"
