For years, women have been screaming at the top of their lungs about the fact that Bollywood films are misogynistic. This has been a discussion for a long time but things are changing at snail’s pace. There are scenes which portray women poorly and it’s simply appalling to see the makers show everything from casual sexism, violence, to even sexual assault. We asked 10 women to reveal Bollywood scenes that have scarred them and there is a pattern at play here. Click the link in the bio to read their answers. #SWEditDesk #AnimalTrailer

Before India braces itself for another big sporting event, it might be important to see if we are even ready; because right now, the situation seems less than ideal. During the group-stage game between India and Pakistan, the Ahmadabad crowd started chanting ‘Jai Shree Ram’ as the opposition batter Muhammad Rizwan was making an exit after getting dismissed. Now, while I am not a fan of comparing one tragedy with another – even if the latter is hypothetical – in this case, it seems necessary. If the Indian cricket team was met with such aggressive chanting in any other part of the world today, the BCCI would have very likely boycotted the whole tournament. And rightfully so. Then why are we not treating the issue with the same sensitivity when one of us is culpable? The answer to this question is elaborate but obvious. Click the link in the bio to read more.
We all have seen someone doing something on television shows and thought, eh, we could have done better. However, things are more difficult and challenging than they seem on our television screens. In a thread, people who have been on reality television shows, talk about their experiences. Needless to mention, the thread gets interesting with each answer. Let’s take a look, shall we? ‘Bhaiya ek Bisleri ki bottle dena.’ For us Indians, Bisleri is almost synonymous with packaged water. So much so, we don’t ask for paani ki bottle at shops but Bisleri instead. If you’ve ever traveled in trains, you probably noticed that you were sold a water bottle from the brand Bisleri, except it wasn’t actually Bisleri. It was probably some dupe that upon closer inspection, you’d see is misspelled. The truth is that though they’re shady, the dupes are laughable and actually pretty great entertainment. So, we’ve ranked misspelt Bisleri labels from hilarious to funny. Click the Link in Bio to check them out because even the worst ones will make you laugh. #SWEditDesk #Bisleri
Vir Das became the first Indian to win an Emmy for Comedy, and for some reason, this win felt quite moving. Perhaps because this is the first one for us, or maybe because he deserved this all this while. There are a lot of reasons, and we’ll always keep coming up with more, because it matters. So, we can try and confine this to logistics, like we do for most things, when emotions take charge. Going back to Landing, his Emmy winning special, made me realize why he deserved every bit of this. Click the link in the bio to read more. #SWEditDesk #VirDas
Sunday night was heartbreaking for Indian cricket fans. Our team — having dominated throughout — really had us believe we were lifting that World Cup trophy after twelve years. And why not? We deserved it. We were invincible. Irrespective of the ultimate outcome, we will always look back at the tournament for the journey, the brand of cricket our team played, and definitely not the last match. But all said and done, we have to acknowledge Australians did outplay us in the final match. They were fielding as if they had never fielded before. And yes, the pitch was relatively easy in the evening, but that cannot be the sole explanation for why Travis Head single-handedly managed to stay till the end despite the pressure of losing three wickets early on. Perhaps it was just not our day. And as much as it breaks our hearts, we gotta live with that. While our cricketers displayed a true sportsmen’s spirit, gracefully accepting the loss, it’s not what their fans did in the aftermath. You see, whatever broiled over social media after Australia lifted the World Cup trophy was embarrassing and very problematic. In a recent piece written for a magazine cover shoot with Kareena Kapoor, the writer wrote about the actor’s sex appeal. It’s nice to see women being looked at like that, without being criticized for it. The piece, however received mixed opinions from people. While it was refreshing to see a woman for her sexuality, there are more ways to do it, than using language that paints an almost objectifying image. The discourse is also subjective, but if something is wrong, it’s wrong. However, this also made me think of how lusting over women mostly boils down to a derogatory emotion – which it shouldn’t be. It’s not that women don’t like it, but when it turns into something uncomfortable it’s bound to get negative. To lust is to want someone, and why should women be deprived of that? So, we asked women what it means to them to be a subject of lust. Click the link in the bio to read what they said. #SWEditDesk #NSFW
I think we can all agree that seeing team India lose to Australia at the ICC World Cup yesterday was one of the most heartbreaking moments for desis everywhere. We had high hopes for a win, but after Rohit Sharma’s dismissal, the match started going in the opposite direction. And ultimately, this left our cricket team in total sadness, which made us sad. It's almost been a day since we lost, but we are not over it yet. Honestly, I don't think we ever will be. So, what we are doing about it is looking at some really heartbreaking images from the World Cup finals. Why? Well, as we said, we love to linger on our pain. That being said, our team played amazingly well in the tournament, and for that, we will always be grateful. #SWEditDesk #WorldCup #IndVsAus #WorldCupFinal
Women are already pitched against each other, every time society gets a chance. So, when it comes to women crossing paths, with the same man in the equation, it gets trickier. The idea that two women who have been with the same man at different times, are always foes is definitely sexist. But it gets sadder when people don’t see where they’re coming from. The equation that Kareena, Sara Alia Khan and Amrita Singh share reminded me of how we never acknowledge when women are cordial in complex relationships.
