The City of Brownsville has given a special proclamation to honor Amelia Earhart, recognizing her life, achievements, and lasting influence on aviation and beyond. It is a source of local pride that in 1929, Amelia Earhart, a pioneer for women in aviation, obtained her commercial pilot's license here in Brownsville. She used a plane that was borrowed from the city's first airport director. This statue inspires all who walk through Dean Porter Park, commemorating her remarkable journey. A big thanks to Dean Porter Park Renovation, Inc. for their commitment to this beautiful project. We're deeply honored to contribute to preserving this significant chapter of our city's aviation history through our Quality of Life Grants.
