A few days back, I shared my experience with online delivery apps and how I spent almost ₹30,0000 in the span of 8 months on unnecessary things. However, the internet was quick to call me a “rookie”, quoting that there are people who spend that amount in just one month. I didn’t subscribe to this and hence did my own little research and guess what - I am actually a noob! I asked around in my office and turns out, people are spending far more on these apps for their essential and non-essential needs. Even more than ₹30,0000 in a month! Tap the link in the bio to find how much people in my office spend on quick commerce apps and comment down if you are also someone who spends so much. The recent mishap that happened with social media star Ankush Bahuguna is a reminder to us that not even the most influential people are safe from scams. Isn’t it a general human tendency to feel that nothing wrong can happen to us? Nobody thinks they’d become a victim of a scam or a fraud over a call. These scenarios make for a good Netflix show plot, but in real life, nah! Especially not for our generation, who has grown up on these cautionary tales through shows, movies, newspaper articles, and more recently, countless reels. However, all my perceptions altered after what happened to me this morning. The HMPV outbreak is making the headlines as reports show a surge in cases in China. However, as per the Prof. (Dr.) Atul Goel, Ministry of Health, there is nothing to be alarmed about HPMV, which is like any other respiratory virus that causes a common cold. The ministry has analyzed the data on the respiratory outbreaks within the country, and there is no substantial increase in the December 2024 numbers. He also stressed that there is a usual increase in outbreaks of respiratory virus infections during winters for which hospitals are prepared with necessities, urging the public to take necessary precautions. When there was a lot of chatter around India’s entry for the Oscars, one country’s submission really caught our eyes. It was a film called 'Santosh' which was the UK’s entry. We googled it and were pleasantly surprised to see it was a Hindi-language film set in rural North India. The international coproduction has been shortlisted for the Best International Film Award at the Oscars and has emerged as one of the top candidates to be in the top 5 nominations. Recently, I got to interview director Sandhya Suri and the lead actor Shahana Goswami, and couldn’t stop thinking, “Wow, I am talking to potential Oscar winners”.
